Who We Are
We are a growing coalition of PERA members, beneficiaries and Colorado taxpayers who are calling on PERA and the Colorado General Assembly to responsibly address climate-related financial risk and take action to minimize the impacts of climate change on our state and pension fund.
Fossil Free PERA aligns with the accelerating divest-invest movement, which accounts for over $11 Trillion in combined assets already divested from fossil fuels over the past five years. We believe divesting from fossil fuels is grounded not only in a moral imperative, but also is financially prudent. Now, more than ever, Colorado needs to be a real climate leader.
Our vision for a Fossil Free PERA includes:
- PERA actively adopting the assessment of climate-related financial risk as part of its ongoing fiduciary duty.
- Supporting the timely sustainable energy transition through PERA’s divestment from fossil fuels and reinvestment in local, renewable energy jobs and infrastructure for Coloradans.
- PERA curbing investments in fossil fuels over the next 3-5 years, beginning immediately with coal investments.
